Franziska has worked in education for nearly 20 years. She has taught in the UK, Australia and now China. Whilst working as a remedial literacy instructor, Franziska became aware of the importance of phonics in developing successful readers and writers.

Gary Yung graduated from a doctoral degree program in Zhejiang University studying comparative education. He also holds an M.A. in Early Childhood Education from UBC, Canada; an M.S. in educational psychology from California State University, USA. He has established a number of international kindergartens in Hangzhou, Zhejiang and Chengdu, Sichuan. He introduced Jolly Phonics to a number of kindergartens in Hong Kong with impressive results.  He sees the need for a quality phonics curriculum to bring to China to help improve English language education in the country. He provides Jolly Phonics teacher training to teachers and parents in the region while working as an education consultant in China in present.

David Calia

David Calia is an American teacher whose teaching in China first started at a large international school. From there he has moved to a local Chinese Kindergarten and to supporting training centers, using Jolly Phonics in each of these.  David has seen the success of this teaching and the confidence of the children in being able to read.  He is excited at being able to train teachers to achieve in this way.

Lin Yuan (Lydia)

Yuan is an experienced children’s English and Music teacher since 2004. She is a native Chinese and is commonly known as Lydia-her English name. She was introduced to Jolly Phonics in 2009 while working in an international school. She has since founded her own language school in the south of China and she has experienced amazing results in her students as well as the English teachers that she works with. Lydia is eager to help increase awareness of Phonics in China and help provide high quality English phonics teaching and learning for parents, teachers and students.

Andus Li

Andus Li established Jolly Faith Learning Centre in 1998 and since then has been educating young children in Hong Kong and mainland China. Andus holds a first degree from Chinese University of Hong Kong and a Master of Education degree from Baptist University. She had authored a series of text book on phonics currently used by many kindergartens.

Andus is experienced in using phonics in early literacy development with English as the second language. Andus and JFLC regularly conduct workshops for parents and teachers on localised teaching method employing Jolly Phonics and also served the main kindergarten chains in Hong Kong to train in-service teachers. She also participated in local university researches on teaching English in kindergartens.

Beverly Sace

Beverly Sace

Beverly is an experienced native early years language teacher and has a British masters in Teaching English to Young Learners, specialising on the second language literacy acquisition of children aged 0-6, in which she investigated the reading and spelling of young children through Jolly Phonics in an ESL context.

Beverly runs Sunflowers Literacy Centre in Kwun Tong and has been providing CPD and inset courses on synthetic phonics (Jolly Phonics of course!), spelling, punctuation and grammar (Jolly Grammar), as well as phonemic awareness for the past 7 years through the training company Literacy Asia. She is an inclusive education speaker and researcher at a local university, a school literacy consultant and ELT author of Vocabfonix, which uses Jolly Phonics to teach spelling of vocabulary and the special Jolly Phonics font. Beverly has taught teachers at the British Council and is currently embarking on doctoral studies in literacy and language.

Beverly personally teaches children with mild learning difficulties using Jolly Phonics, which has yielded spectacular progress for her students. She has also started delivering courses to parents, on how to support their children’s reading at home, thereby increasing and speeding reading acquisition. Jolly Phonics is Beverly’s programme of choice – it works excellently with very young learners, delayed readers, as well as children with special needs.

Winnie Pang

winnie-newWinnie is an experienced and qualified teacher of English as a foreign language. She has used Jolly Phonics with very young Asian learners and seen excellent results – their literacy develops at a steady pace and they keep returning for more as their confidence grows! The multi-sensory programme has also helped Winnie to create an engaging and positive learning context, which is vital for teaching young learners.

Having previously been Phonics Coordinator of the British Council Hong Kong, Winnie has played a major role in developing and writing their popular six-semester programme for young learners, and their four-semester course for older pupils.

Winnie currently teaches Phonics and other young learner courses for the British Council and gives Phonics training to their teachers every semester. She has started ‘read2win’ in order to share her passion in teaching reading and writing using Jolly Phonics with more teachers and parents.

Winnie provides regular practical and hands-on Jolly Phonics workshops in Hong Kong and Hanoi.

Angela Iu

Angela has been teaching English as a Second Language for over 30 years, and teaching children aged 3-14 with Jolly Phonics & Grammar and Jolly Music. She believes that good teachers teach well, but better teachers motivate students to self motivate themselves to learn!

By using the songs from Jolly Phonics and Jolly Music, Angela creates a fun environment for the students. By structuring the classroom so students know what is expected of them, Angela creates disciplined and motivated students.

She is currently holding workshops for both teachers and parents with the Institute of Advanced Learning and Jolly Knowledge Association in Hong Kong, helping to implement Jolly Phonics and Jolly Music, and develop teachers’ skills. She is eager to help other teachers to learn the joys that teaching with Jolly Series can bring as well as ensuring that, once learnt, those skills are used for their further English Language education.

Robin Chan

Robin Chan

With more than 20 years of experience in teaching English, Robin (B.Ed., TESOL) has been teaching Jolly Phonics for over 15 years. He has witnessed how effective using synthetic phonics with young children is, and the wonderful results it produces. As a phonics specialist, Robin is currently involved in one-to-one teaching of Jolly Phonics to K-1 & K-3 pupils in Hong Kong. Robin provides reading assessments for pupils and advice to parents to help develop their child’s literacy. Robin also specializes in teaching English Grammar and writing to children who have mastered phonics skills. Robin has recently started teaching Jolly Phonics to adults as well. In addition, Robin would like to teach any interested individuals French phonics.

Alex Conley is from California, USA and he has lived and worked in Japan since May 2011. He is the founder of Phonics In Japan, a company dedicated to training teachers and parents how to best teach Jolly Phonics and providing the appropriate materials to support their training. He is also the Executive Director of ALEX 英会話 and currently teaches English in Tsukishima, Tokyo. Kayoko Yamashita

Kayoko is a qualified primary, secondary school teacher in Japan, and has worked in schools in Japan and England. She graduated from The University of Nottingham with an MA in Special Needs Education. She has worked with children who need additional support to acquire English or with special needs in schools. April-McbrideApril McBride originates from the UK, is the Director of an International Preschool in Tokyo and has lived in Japan since 2001. April specialises in teaching young learners, both native and non-native English speakers and also has years of experience supporting older children who are struggling with reading and writing. He has a K-12 ESOL teaching certification in the U.S., a Masters degree in TEFL/TESL from The University of Birmingham U.K. and a Bachelors degree in Sociology. He knows from experience that Jolly Phonics is the best phonics program on the market having used a number of other phonics systems in his classrooms over the years.  He wants to share his enthusiasm for this system with teachers who wish to get their students ready to read and communicate in English.

Sung Eun ChungSung Eun Chung is a principal at TESIA, a private English academy near Daegu.  She has a degree in Child Education and English Literature from Myoungji University in Seoul, Korea, and a masters degree in Education from Loyola University Maryland, USA. Yoonji Chung

Yoonji ChungYoonji Chung is a preschool teacher in Agape Montessori Education Center since 2008. Before that she worked in Agape Language Institute 2007-2009 as a Jolly Phonics teacher. She has Association Montessori International (AMI) Certification for 3-5 years old children and a bachelor degree in Kyungbuk National University, where she did a double major in psychology and child-family studies, with a minor in English. She loves Jolly Phonics so much because it gives confidence to everyone –  not just children, but adults too! Jolly Phonics Training in China a Success!

Jolly Phonics Training at QSI InternationalSchool Dongguan City, Guangdong Province, China was a resounding success! 7 teachers from the school were in attendance of the one day training workshop on Tuesday September 4th, 2012. David Calia, The Jolly Phonics Trainer in Guangdong Province, presented information surrounding the five basic skills along with helpful teacher activities and an overview of Jolly materials and resources. The teachers and administration were excited and felt confident to begin using Jolly Phonics in their classes and in their school! We’re all looking forward to working with Jolly Grammar.

Successful Training in Guangzhou, China

On October 29th, 2013 David Calia and Lydia Lin had successfully conducted two training and informative events on Jolly Phonics to two organizations in Guangzhou, South China. 

The events were attended by head teachers of each of the Shunde and Foshan primary schools in Guangzhou, and Graduate students at the The South China Normal University. The excitement of all the teachers and administration was welcoming as a year long trial in six primary schools will proceed. Additionally, Framework of a research study regarding the trial is being considered.

Jolly Learning Training in Shandong Province

On November 18th, 2013 Lydia Lin and David Calia had given training on Jolly Phonics scheme to a group of primary school teachers in Qingdao, Chenyang, Shandong Province, China. Lydia and David were invited by the education department and were glad to support them in the way of introducing Jolly Phonics and Grammar to schools.

David Calia, certified Jolly Learning trainer in China: “32 primary school teachers attended our training in Qingdao and it was such a joy to learn together. Many of the techers were so excited about using Jolly Phonics and our time together was great!”
